Sir,
This has a reference to Education Minister’s statement in the House that State Govt has no plan to open new Degree Colleges. In this connection the Minister is requested to see the ground reality of Higher Education in the State. The topography, difficult terrain, very poor road connectivity and non-availability of Degree Colleges even one at Tehsil level is a matter of serious concern. Not to speak of old tehsils but even the Assembly constituencies in all have no Degree Colleges. For example very large hilly area Chenani constituency has no Degree College when in reality it deserves three, one each at Chenani, Ghordi and Panchari and even fourth at Latti. Tehsil Headquarter Chenani qualified much earlier with large number of winter Zone Higher Secondary Schools, but no winter Zone Degree College. The passouts are suffering badly.
A large number of boys and girls have become dropouts. Similar may be the case of other areas as J&K State as a whole is a hilly area. The State Govt and the Education Minister is working on Development Agenda. The progressive steps are being taken in Education Department. The fact should be noted that college education prepares students for various types of State and National Cadre jobs. If the students are left out at 10+2 Level, they will miss chance to compete at State and National Level jobs, where vacancies in thousands occur every year. So, the Minister should direct his Department to sanction at least one Degree College at Tehsil Level or even at Constituency Level.
Yours etc…..
