JAMMU, Apr 13: Drugs & Food Control Organization (DFCO) has disallowed operations of 61 drug sale establishments for violation of conditions of the licenses.
The action was taken by respective licensing authorities during a special drive wherein surprise checks of drug sales establishments (retail/wholesale) were carried out under the supervision of respective Assistant Drugs Controller in Jammu Province under the overall the supervision of Lotika Khajuria, State Drugs Controller.
The establishments whose operations were disallowed u/s 22 (d) of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 included 11 in Kathua, 8 in Jammu & Samba each, 7 each in Doda and Ramban, 6 in R S Pura, 5 in Kishtwar, 3 in Udhampur, 4 in Reasi and 2 in Rajouri. The licenses were warned of severe action in case the deficiencies are not removed within stipulated period of time.
Moreover, licenses of two wholesale establishments were cancelled for violation of conditions of the licenses and six shops sealed in far flung areas of Doda district by Assistant Drugs Controller, Doda.
Further, statutory drug samples of 380 drug formulations viz Antibiotics, PPI, Steroid, NSAIDs etc, were lifted from public institutions & private firms particularly situated in far flung areas and Government institutions for determination of strength and purity. These samples were referred to Drug Testing Laboratories located within and outside the UT of J&K for framing legal opinion to ascertain their quality parameters.
Apart from this, stocks of drugs worth Rs 3,02,400 that were found to be contravening the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act were confiscated from the supply chain by the Regulatory Officers of the Organization under the relevant provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
