JAMMU, Aug 26: The oil tanker operators today again threatened to stop the fuel supplies to Kashmir and Ladakh region as a score of more tankers were attacked and two drivers seriously injured by the mob at different places in Kashmir.
A deputation of tank drivers including two injured drivers, assisted by members of J&K Petrol Tank Drivers Welfare Committee led by Ranjeet Singh Raina-president, Manmohan Singh and Davinder Singh -office bearers and also some members of J&K Oil Tanker Owners Association met the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal today in his office chamber and brought to his notice the incidents related to fresh attacks on the oil tanker drivers from Jammu region in Kashmir on Thursday.
The tanker operators pointed out that despite assurance from the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Khan and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti regarding full security cover, the tanker drivers have been attacked again at Bijbehara and Shelteng in Kashmir yesterday. They said more than 20 tankers have been damaged and two drivers including one Anil Kumar Sangra have been injured. Anil has sustained serious injury near his eye and got 9 stitches. They said even at some places drivers were beaten up in front of security forces.
The Divisional Commissioner Dr Pawan Kotwal assured to provide relief for the injured drivers and compensation for the damaged vehicles.
Meanwhile, J&K Oil Tanker Owners Association president , S S Khorana and general secretary Shashi Lekha today said that tanker operators will be forced to again suspend the supplies to Kashmir if the Government failed to provide fool proof security to the drivers and their vehicles in Kashmir. They alleged that Government despite giving assurance in writing has failed to provide protection to the tankers drivers in Valley.
J&K Oil Tanker Drivers Union, president KD Wani told the Excelsior that that operators have decided to suspend the supplies for Kashmir and Ladakh again, if the incidents of attacks on the tankers and the drivers continued for the next two days.
