Oppn disrupts Q Hour over demonetisation; LS adjourned till noon

NEW DELHI : An unrelenting opposition demanding discussion on demonetisation under Rule 56 in the Lok Sabha today again disrupted Question Hour creating a ruckus in the Well forcing adjournment till 1200 hrs.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, leader of the Congress Mallikarjun Kharge rose up to press for his adjournment motion, and other Opposition members too were on their feet vociferously demanding the same.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ananth Kumar tried to pacify the agitating members, saying that the government was ready for discussion under Rule 193. He said the people were with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his crusade against black money, but the Opposition refused to relent. The members of Congress, Trinamool Congress, RJD, the Left, SP, JD(U) and other parties trooped into the Well raising slogans against the government for scrapping Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes. Mr Kharge said the withdrawal of high value currency notes was causing great hardship to the farmers, small traders, vendors, labourers and the common people, to which the Government should immediately pay attention. However, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan was unmoved and proceeded with the Question Hour, but had to adjourn the proceedings till 1200 hrs as the din increased with the Opposition resorting to sloganeering on a higher pitch.
