JAMMU, Apr 5: Opposition MLAs today protested against the re-engagement of 192 employees by the State Government after retirement and termed the same as “backdoor appointment”.
Raising the issue in the Legislative Assembly, National Panthers Party MLA from Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia said, “Government is hell bent to demoralize the educated unemployed youth by effecting re-employment of large number of employees after their retirement”.
“The rights of the unemployed youth are being violated by this Government to appease favourites. The Government should explain the compulsion behind taking this step”, he further said.
Another NPP leader, Harshdev Singh and CPM MLA, Mohd Yousaf Tarigami also joined the issue and termed the large scale re-employment as “backdoor appointments”. “On one side the Government is not ready to pay even the minimum wages to the those recruited under the new policy and on other side it is keeping its coffers open to appease favourite employees by re-employing them”, Harshdev Singh said.
Some more Opposition MLAs also joined the issue and left their seats in protest. However, they were pacified by the Speaker, Mubarak Gul, who asked the Government to furnish the department wise details of such employees and the reasons behind re-employment.
In the meantime, Congress MLA and former Minister, G M Saroori remarked, “Government re-employees employees only in case of exigencies”, adding “Government needs re-employment particularly in the health sector”.
This infuriated Opposition MLAs, who again stood up to agitate over the issue. However, they were again pacified by the Chair.
