NEW DELHI, May 16: Accusing Congress Party and its allies, particularly Mamata Banerjee-led TMC, of having crossed all limits of civility in the ongoing election campaign, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said here today that what these opposition leaders fail to realize is that the opposition abuses against Narendra Modi are going to backfire on them because, the more they abuse Modi, the more he gets endeared to the people of India.
In an interview on a national TV Channel, Dr Jitendra Singh said, 130 crore people of this country have made up their mind to have Narendra Modi as Prime Minister for the second term also and the opposition leaders of the so called Mahagathbandhan, who are, in desperation, stooping to the use of highly shameful and abusive vocabulary, are, in fact, inadvertently abusing not Modi, but actually abusing the will of the people of India. Modi, he said, today lives in the heart of each and every Indian and a handful of the Prime Ministerial aspirants in the opposition, who refuse to accept this fact, are in fact refusing to accept the democratic spirit of India.
Responding to Congress Spokesperson’s statement referring to MCC (Model Code of Conduct) as “Modi’s Code of Conduct” and the Congress ally, TMC leader Mamata Banerjee alleging that the Election Commission is controlled by BJP, Dr Jitendra Singh said, what these leaders are saying is actually determined by the conditioning of their mindset during the long years when the Congress was in power and it intimidated every constitutional institution to its advantage. He said, it was during the Congress-led UPA regime that CBI earned the dubious description of being “parrot in a cage” and it is also during the Mamata Banerjee led TMC regime that CBI was disallowed from filing cases against the accused in the State of West Bengal.
Taking a dig at the charges hurled at the Election Commission by Congress, TMC and other allies, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the people of this country have, by now, got used to the familiar pattern followed by these parties wherein, whenever they face an imminent defeat, they start attributing it to the Election Commission, in one way or the other. Even during the ongoing general election, he said, Congress and its allies first raked up the baseless issue of EVMs having been manipulated by the BJP, later alleged that EVMs had been manipulated in such a way that whichever button was pressed on the machine, the vote went to BJP and still later Congress went to the Court to be rebuffed for its suggestion that counting of 50% VVPAT slips should be made mandatory.
Meanwhile, today, Dr Jitendra Singh was presented a souvenir book on “Clean Election Campaign” by the representatives of a Delhi-based social organization devoted to the cause of ethics and nationalist values in the electoral process.
