Opposition stages walkout from Assembly over flood issue

JAMMU :  Opposition members of both National Conference and Congress today staged walkout from the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council blaming government for not making adequate arrangements in flood-hit areas of the state.
Shouting slogans, NC and Congress legislators alleged that the government has failed to take precautionary steps before flood like situation despite warnings.
The NC members also brought the adjournment resolution in the House on the issue, which was rejected.    Meanwhile, Horticulture Minister A R Veeri said the government is closely monitoring the situation and the official machinery besides security forces and the Army are on job in rescuing the people trapped in flash floods.
He said 15 people have died in Kashmir region and three people have lost their lives across Jammu region.    The Minister said the government has also announced relief for the families of flood victims.
However, not satisfied with the reply, opposition amid protest walked out of the Assembly.
Opposition legislators also protested and staged walk-out from the Upper House over the same issue.
