Oprah Winfrey to get Cecil B DeMille award at Golden Globes

LOS ANGELES, Dec 14: Talk show host and media mogul Oprah Winfrey will be honoured with Cecil B deMille Award at the 75th Golden Globes.
The announcement was made by Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), which conducts the awards annually.
Winfrey is best known for her talk show “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, and as the chairman and CEO of cable network, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
“The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is delighted to announce Oprah Winfrey as the recipient of the 2018 Cecil B DeMille Award. As a global media leader, philanthropist, producer, and actress, she has created an unparallelled connection with people around the world, making her one of the most respected and admired figures today,” HFPA president Meher Tatna said in a statement posted on award’s official website.
“For generations, Oprah has celebrated strong female characters on and off screen, and has been a role model for women and young girls for decades. Holding titles such as Chairman, CEO, and Founder, Oprah is one of the most influential women of our time, and this honour is well deserved especially in this 75th anniversary year of the Golden Globe Awards,” she added.
The 63-year-old TV personality, is also a Golden Globe nominee for her role in “The Color Purple”.
The Cecil B. DeMille Award is given annually to a talented individual for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.
Past recipients of the award includes Meryl Streep (2017), Denzel Washington (2016), George Clooney (2015), Woody Allen (2014), Jodie Foster (2013), Morgan Freeman (2012) and others.
To be hosted by Seth Meyers, the 75th Annual Golden Globe awards will take place on January 7, 2018. (PTI)
