Ops of 20 retail establishments disallowed, samples of over 200 drug formulations lifted

JAMMU, Sep 9: The operations of 20 drug retail sale establishments were disallowed across Jammu province by Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) for violation of conditions of licenses.
Sleuths of the DFCO carried out supervisory checks of drug sales establishments (retail/ wholesale) under the supervision of respective Assistant Drugs Controller in Jammu Province under the overall supervision of Lotika Khajuria, State Drugs Controller, to ensure that the conditions of licenses are being followed by the licensees & quality drugs are being provided to the end users.
During the drive, 20 retail sale establishments including eight in Jammu district, three each in Samba and Rajouri districts, and two each in Udhampur, Kishtwar and Reasi districts were found violating the conditions of the licenses and accordingly, operations of these establishments were disallowed under section 22 (d) of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 on spot. The licensees were warned of severe action in case the deficiencies are not removed within stipulated period of time.
Moreover, the statutory drug samples of more than 200 drug formulations viz Antibiotics, PPI, Steroid, NSAIDs etc and cosmetics & medical devices were lifted from public institutions and private firms particularly situated in far flung areas and Government institutions for determination of strength and purity. These samples were referred to Drug Testing Laboratories located within and outside the union territory of J&K for framing legal opinion to ascertain their quality parameters.
Stocks of drugs worth Rs 1,26,370 that were found to be contravening the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act have also been confiscated from the supply chain by the Regulatory Officers of the organization under the relevant provisions of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act.
Besides, awareness programs were also conducted by the Department wherein the pharma trade members were sensitized and impressed upon to dispense medicines in consonance with the mandate of law and in the best interest of patient care.
