SRINAGAR, Apr 14: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president, Prof Saif-ud-din Soz today said that his party’s options for forming the next Government in the State after the 2014 Assembly elections are open.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a reception function held here at the PCC headquarters after his re-election as PPC president, he said that the party would decide whether to enter into a coalition or form Government on its own once the results of the 2014 Assembly elections are out. He said there is no scope for speculations in this regard adding that the High Command would take a final call.
“Let 2014 come first and then we can discuss the options of forming the next Government in the State. If we have the numbers then we may form the Government on our own but we are also open to forming a coalition government. All this would be done at the appropriate time and there is no need to jump the gun at this point of time,” said Soz.
He claimed that Congress would emerge as the single largest party in the Assembly after next year’s elections. He said the party has a strong base in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions of the State adding that people would vote generously for the party in 2014 Assembly elections.
Prof Soz said that the party would decide about the coalition partner only after the declaration of results. He exuded confidence that the party would come out with flying colours in both Assembly and the Parliamentary elections.
He said that he would write to Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and ask him to act against the security forces personnel who wrongly implicated two Kashmiri youth in the Lajpat Nagar blasts in New Delhi in 1996. He expressed concern over the re-arrest of these two youth and demanded their immediate release.
“The two youth were found innocent only after serving detention for 16 years in the jail. The Prime Minister should act against the security forces personnel found to be involved in dereliction of duties. The youth should be released soon since they are innocent and have suffered a lot,” said Prof Soz.
He added that the militants should drop guns and join the mainstream and take active part in the solution of daily problems of the people of State. He said the gun has no solution and militants should understand that only dialogue can help in resolving a problem.
“There is a need to take the peace process forward and each and every stake holder has a role in this regard. The Government should carry on with both the internal and external dialogue for resolving the problem. People want peace with dignity and they are fed up with the different forms of violence,” said Soz.
He said that there is no fear psychosis among Sarpanchs and they are discharging their obligations in an honest manner. He said it is not possible to provide security to each and every Panchayat representative in the State. He added that Congress party has acceded to the suggestion of National Conference to hold polls for Local Bodies in June.
Earlier addressing the party workers, Soz said that all the national parties including Congress should change their viewpoint towards Kashmiris. He said people of Kashmir have rejected violence adding that they deserve a fair as well as better treatment from the people at helm and opposition both in the Centre and State.
“People want a dignified life and they also want an end to the harassment of the Kashmiri youth in the different parts of the country. People friendly initiatives would motivate the masses to come towards the national mainstream otherwise all the good work would be lost. Army and the paramilitary forces too have to change their attitude in order to establish a good rapport with the masses,” said Soz.
He announced that a grievance redressal cell would be established at PCC headquarters in order to solve the basic problems of the people. The function was also addressed by Haj and Auqaf Minister, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, MLCs Mohammad Muzaffar Parray, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Bashir Ahmad Magray and senior Congress leader Ghulam Rasool Kar.
