JAMMU, May 7:A seven-day Training and Orientation programme for NSS Programme Officers of Jammu region, began today at Jammu University.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma, formally inaugurated the training programme, which is being organized by the office of the Programme Coordinator, NSS JU, in collaboration with TORC, Chandigarh.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof R D Sharma stressed for developing the faculties of thinking, analyzing, reasoning and a habit of learning to increase the general awareness and knowledge and to impart education of excellence as well as of relevance to contemporary needs. He asked the Programme Officers to understand their responsibility and become role models for their students so that they also emulate the same.
Expressing his pleasure over adopting of villages by some colleges, he said that all the institutions should come forward and work for the welfare of the society especially for those in need. He advised them to dedicate atleast one day in a week or a month towards the social cause.
Around 45 Programme officers are participating in the orientation programme.
Dr Vishav Raksha, Programme Coordinator, NSS, University of Jammu, in her welcome address, spoke about the features and working of NSS as an important national scheme and how the orientation programmes are important for the NSS Programme officers. Dr Satyavir Malik, Director, TORC, apprised about the working of NSS. He focused on the ideology of Gandhi and Vivekananda and how the society should follow their ideology for better social system.
The vote of thanks was presented by Dr Hema Gandotra, NSS Programme Officer, JU while Shakun Sharma conducted the programme.
Others present on the occasion, included Jai Kumar Sharma, Prof Jasbir Singh, Chairman NSS campus units JU, Dr Anupama Vohra, Dr Monika Narang and Dr Neharica Subhash.
