NEW DELHI : Mr Oscar Fernandes and Jairam Ramesh of the Congress, Mr M J Akbar of the BJP and Mr Satish Chandra Misra of the BSP today took oath as new members of the Rajya Sabha. The four members, who were re-elected to the Rajya Sabha in the recent biennial elections, made and subscribed to oath, which was administered by Rajya Sabha chairman Hamid Ansari. While Mr Fernandes and Mr Ramesh have been elected to the Upper House from Karnataka, Mr Akbar has been elected from Madhya Pradesh and Mr Misra from Uttar Pradesh. Among those present at the function, held at the residence of Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, were Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien, Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar and Ministers of state for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and S S Ahluwalia.
