Out of 35 Wards, Chanapora tops SMC’s independently-carried Cleanliness Survey

Srinagar, Sept 10: Out of 35 wards, Chanapora has emerged as one of the cleanest Municipal Ward in the Srinagar city as per the ward-wise cleanliness rankings that have been issued by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
The ward has secured the first slot in the list of 35 wards after various parameters such as sweeping, garbage lifting and elimination of garbage. Vulnerable points were taken into consideration during a survey that has been carried out independently by a third party to ascertain the performance of wards on the ground.
Based on the effectiveness of these parameters, points were accordingly allotted to the respective wards in which the Municipal Ward Chanapora has secured 275 points out of 300-which is the highest.
After Chanapora, Lal Chowk has secured the second number with securing 274 points, Pantha Chowk has secured the third number with 271 points while Hazratbal has been listed fourth with 269 points. In the parameter of Sweeping, Chanapora has secured 92 points, 90 in Garbage Lifting and 93 points in the Elimination of Garbage Vulnerable Points.
There are also 2 Municipal Wards that have been stated as ‘Poor Performers’ which include Nishat and Hyderpora as both of the wards appear to figure poor particularly in the Garbage Lifting parameter of the rankings issued, while as the aggregate points secure by these wards are 239, 224 respectively.
Apart from that, the Municipal Wards that have been declared as ‘Good Performers’ include Parimpora HMT, Jawahar Nagar, Baghi Mehtab, Nai Sarak, Madin Sahib, Soura, Zaina Kadal, Khanyar, Nowshahra, Islamyarbal and Karan Nagar.
The Municipal Wards that have been listed ‘Fair Performers’ include Zakoora, Safakadal, Batamaloo, Dal, Palpora, Magarmal Bagh, Mukhdoom Sahib and Bota Pora, while as Municipal Wards such as Jamalatta, Lal Bazar, Qamerwari, Lawaypora, Humhama, Khumani Chowk, Bemina, Hawal, Ahmad Nagar and Kralyar have figures in the ‘Satisfactory’ list.
Chief Sanitation Officer, SMC Nazir Ahmad Baba while talking to EXCELSIOR said that such a survey aims to improve the performance of Municipal Wards in Srinagar City and is being carried out independently by Project Management Unit (PMU) which has been hired for such purposes.
