Outstanding officers to be given PM’s award: Dr Jitendra

NEW DELHI, Apr 19: As a part of the Government’s endeavour to improve governance by encouraging the  IAS and allied  services officers, outstanding civil servants will be presented PM’s Award of Excellence at a ceremony at which the Prime Minister Narendra Modi will himself be personally present.
Disclosing this, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, who also happens to be incharge of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances which is organizing the programme, said that the awards  will be a part of the Civil Services Day event stretched over two days, beginning tomorrow. The day will be observed to commemorate the historic occasion when the first Home Minister of India, Sardar Vallabha Bhai Patel had addressed the first batch of IAS officers soon after independence, he added.
Civil Services Day this year, said Dr. Jitendra Singh, will primarily focus on the theme of “minimum government, maximum governance” and will discuss different sectors under this theme. There will be separate sessions dealing with different departments to be addressed by leading experts in each department, he informed. The sub-themes of social sector, housing, skill development & entrepreneurship, agriculture and health  are among the subjects scheduled to be covered, he added.
Several Union Ministers related to the above themes have also consented to chair the sessions, said Dr. Jitendra Singh and informed that among those expected to be present during the two days in different sessions are Smriti Irani, HRD Minister, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Skill Development Minister and Suresh Prabhu, Railway Minister. Among the experts whose presence has been solicited include Dr Aravind Panagariya, Vice Chairman NITI Ayog, B. Sriram, MD State Bank of India, Anita Arjundas, CEO Mahindra Lifespaces, Dr Vinod Paul from AIIMS, Prof Govind of NEUPA, SC Behar from Azim Premji Foundation, Anil Sinha from World Bank Group and Mohandas Pai of Manipal Global Education Services.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said, one of the highlights of the two-day academic deliberations will be the presentation on the newly introduced programme called “PRAGATI” by A.K Sharma, Joint Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office, which was inspired by the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the presentation on e-Samiksha by Joint Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat. Both these programmes have been recently designed with a focus on improving governance and efficiency as well as performance of the civil servants. Similarly, the Secretary DoP&T will present a report on the field visits by various civil servants and there will also be a plenary session on the “Context and challenges of the Civil Services”, he added.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said, the two-day event will not only be an opportunity to receive guidance from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be present for one of the main sessions, but will also offer an opportunity to introspect the evolution of Civil Services over the years and to deliberate on the challenging expectations from civil servants in the current scenario. Overall, the objective of the two-day academic deliberations would be to enable civil servants contribute better to the society and people for whom their services are meant, he added.
