On the eve of Women’s Day, President Ram Nath Kovind conferring Nari Shakti awards on 29 Indian women of outstanding calibre in different fields and activities demonstrates how Indian women prove as game changers and excel in different fields to an extent meriting national recognition. It is heartening that among the recipients , Jammu and Kashmir had its due share in the form of two women of outstanding calibre namely Sandhya Dhar and Nasira Akhtar getting the coveted awards. Similarly , Padma Yangchan from the UT of Ladakh also was one of the outstanding recipients.
Sandhya Dhar a social worker from Gangyal, Jammu and Nasira Akhtar from Kulgam Kashmir , an environmentalist while Padma Yangchan from Ladakh is known to have revived the lost cuisine and clothing in Leh region. A day earlier, the Prime Minister had met the women and interacted with them and not only praising their contribution but terming it as “the work with the spirit of service as well as innovation”. The award, it may be reiterated, is given by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development in token of acknowledgment of contributions of Indian women to help towards instilling inspiration in others , towards women empowerment and for the benefit of the society in general . We congratulate the recipients particularly belonging to Jammu and Kashmir as also from UT Ladakh.
