Over 10,500 yatris leave for Amarnath cave from base camps

SRINAGAR :  More than 10,500 pilgrims, including women and sadhus, today left for Holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas from Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps.
“This is for the first time since the commencement of the yatra on June 28, more than 10,000 yatris left from base camps in a single day.
“The yatra was going on smoothly though there was light rain on Baltal, the shortest track route,” a yatra official said.
He said 5,422 pilgrims, including women and sadhus, who had arrived at the camp till last night, left for the Holy cave shrine early this morning.
Though there was light rains, the yatris were allowed to move towards the shrine on the track from 0400 hrs.
Similarly, 5,176 pilgrims left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp this morning. They included women and sadhus who had arrived there from different parts of the country to have the darshan of the self made ice-shivlingam in the cave.
He said the yatris who had night halt at different halting stations on the traditional route, also started their journey this morning.
About 1,50,000 pilgrims have so far had the darshan of the Shivlingam in the shrine.
