Over 10K primary schools opened in the State under SSA: Govt

JAMMU, Mar 11:
Over 10,000 primary schools have been opened in the state under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Government told the legislature today.
Replying to a question from PDP legislator Sayed Asgar Ali in the Upper House of the legislature here, Minister of State for Medical Education Feroz Ahmed Khan said 10,591 primary schools have been opened against the target of 10,809 under SSA since its launch in 2001-02.
Replying to another question by Congress MLC Subash Chander Gupta, Khan said the opening of new schools in distantly-located area of Kathua district could be examined subject to the fulfillment of prescribed criteria of SSA.
On the question of creating posts of Medical Record Officers in Governmnet Medical College Srinagar, the Minister said the proposal in this regard was under active consideration of the department.
Replying to another question by Congress MLC Ravinder Kumar Sharma, Feroz Khan said 1,260 posts of various categories and cadres were vacant in Rajouri district and added that 519 posts have been referred to recruitment agency for selection of suitable candidates. (AGENCIES)
