NEW DELHI, May 16: CBI has registered over 1,450 cases of alleged corruption in the last three years, the Government said today.
“So fas as CBI is concerned, during the years 2010, 2011 and 2012 (till March 31, 2012), it has registered 1,451 cases under the prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Out of these 1,451 cases, 464 were trap cases.
“So far as the number of persons involved in these cases is concerned, the data is not centrally maintained,” Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy told Lok Sabha in a written reply.
He said that each Central Government ministry or department has its own vigilance wing to deal with corruption in their respective domain.
Narayanasamy said that CBI has disposed of 1,366 cases under the PC Act between 2010 and March 2012.
“The CBI has filed charge sheets in courts in 1,139 cases,” the Minister said.
In another reply, he said the Central Government has decided to set up 71 additional special courts exclusively for the trial of CBI cases in different states. “Out of these, 62 courts have started functioning,” Narayanasamy said.
Before this, there were 56 courts (46 courts of special judge and 10 courts of special magistrates) functioning for CBI cases across the country.
He said the Government has taken various steps including appointments of 43 special prosecutors or assistant special prosecutors, and appointment of law or pairavi officers for 71 newly-created special additional courts for CBI. (PTI)
