JAMMU, Nov 30: Over 5.59 lakh people have applied for 4,002 police constable posts in Jammu and Kashmir, with the exams set to begin on December 1. The tests will be held on December 1, 8, and 22.

The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) Chairperson, Indu Kanwal Chib, said the exams will take place across 856 centres in 20 districts.
According to her, a total of 2, 62, 863 candidates will take the test for constable (Executive/ Armed/SDRF) positions on December 1.
The highest number of candidates (54,296) is from Jammu district, she said.
On December 8, she said, 1, 67, 609 candidates will appear for constable (Telecommunications) posts, and on December 22, 1, 28, 663 candidates will take the test for constable (Photographer) positions.
The exam centers will have male and female officers as frisking supervisors, and the exams will be video recorded to ensure fairness, the JKSSRB Chairperson said.
The Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, Atal Dulloo, emphasized that adequate staff, including observers and security personnel, should be deployed at each center to ensure smooth and secure conduct of the exams.
Meanwhile, a group of young people protested in Jammu, demanding age relaxation for those who were too old to apply for the posts.
They also called for the exams to be rescheduled so they could have a chance to compete.
These individuals had previously requested age relaxations from the authorities, but their appeals were not accepted.
Additionally, the SSRB is set to begin the recruitment process for 669 Sub-inspectors in the police department on December 3, with applications open until January 2, 2025.
