Over Rs 50 lakh incurred on renovation of Durga Nag under Smart City: Bakaya

JAMMU, May 11: The Advisory Committee of Durga Nag Trust held a meeting here, today under the chairmanship of its president and former MLC, Vijay Bakaya.
During the meeting Bakaya briefed the trustees and members of Advisory Committee about various steps taken by the Trust for the development of holy shrine and protection of its property both at Srinagar and Jammu.
He assured the members and the Kashmiri Pandit community that every step will be taken to protect the property of the Trust and cautioned them about some canards being spread by certain vested interest in this regard.
Bakaya said not a single inch of the land belonging to the Durga Nag has been sold and the ownership right of the entire land belonging to Trust vests with the shrine. He said since the formation of the Trust over 100 years back it has been decided at that time that the land of the Trust can by leased out for welfare of the people and the successive trustees have done it from time to time.
He said the land on which Paras Hospital has been constructed has been leased out in eighties and the lease deed is valid up to 2030 but the ownership right of the land is with the shrine. He also said that shrine was renovated under Smart City Project and over Rs 50 lakh were incurred on this project. This was only done after trustees put up a proposal before Government in this regard. Besides, the Trust has constructed the grand Mathura Devi Hall in the premises of the shrine, renovated the community hall at Barnai, Jammu, restored 11 marlas of land to the Community Hall, constructed a Yagya Shalla and fenced the land.
He said the Trust also cleared the liabilities left by previous body and paid the arrears of electricity charges amounting to Rs 14 lakh for Srinagar and about Rs one lakh at Jammu. He asked the community people not to get misled by false propaganda made by certain vested interests. The prominent members of the community including intellectuals , social and political activists attended the meeting.
