Right in the beginning of the creation, God blesses us with the knowledge of Vedas. The main motto of Vedas is to destroy the illusion, sorrows of the life and attain salvation. For this God asks us to find the answer to the question mentioned in Yajurved mantra 7/29. The said mantra puts question that who are we, to whom do we relate to, what is our name? Answer- Really we are not human-bodies but we live within the human-body, we do not relate to anyone because we are souls and soul is not made of any matter, we are immortal and Swayambhu (self-existent). Our name is soul, soul is alive matter and divine form of happiness. The name-ceremony is performed to name the human-body and not soul through human-body, the soul is identified.
Let us also pay our attention towards the shloka of Vanparv of Mahabharat epic wherein VyasMuniji states that in this world, daily, a number of human-beings meet with death but rest of the alive people always desire to establish themselves permanently here.
VyasMuniji adds what else can be more astonishing than this? (It is surprising that people observe other’s death but not their own death, which fundamentally is to be met in the near future.)
See, that daily vast number of births are also taking place in this world. It means there exists natural cycle of deaths and births.
In Bhagwad Geeta shloka 13/8, Yogeshwar Sri Krishna Maharaj also preaches Arjun that Oh! Arjun, why don’t you feel the grief and fault existing in birth, death, old age, diseases etc.
Really, how astonishing is the matter that a person takes birth, passes childhood, young age, reaches at the old age and during the said process, he bears several types of sorrows etc. but as quoted above by VyasMuniji, the person duly entangled in illusion and keeping aside vedic spiritual path, he never tries to overcome most painful death. As per the view of ancient and present Rishi-Munis, I too think that due to lack of knowledge of Vedas and therefore indulgence in illusion, there are hardly any people who discuss on the above matter with the learned to know the reason thereof and to be away from the most painful suffering- the death.
In this connection, while commenting on the Yog Shastra sutra 2/3, VyasMuniji states that when falsehood/illusion enters the intellect of a person then he becomes totally unable to understand the truth.
And, infact, the said problem is being experienced by most of the people of the world nowadays.
VyasMuniji states that the death is the reason due to the effect of Raj, Tam and Satva qualities of non-alive matter- prakriti. Prakriti means inactive stage of Rajo, Tamo and Satto gunn.
In short, Rajogunn creates senuality, Tamo gunn creates laziness and habit of not doing hard-deeds, thirdly, the Satogunn creates pride. A person duly entangled in the said illusion/ignorance always remain unhappy and sorrowful.
Atharvaved mantra 10/8/44 preaches that only the aspirant who after studying Vedas, doing hard practice of Ashtang Yog under the guidance of learned Acharya, realises Almighty God, he is never afraid of death. He gets salvation.
It concludes that cycle of death and birth is to be overcome. The soul at the time of death comes out of body and according to Yajurved chapter 39, first wanders in planets, i.e. sun, fire, air, aditya, moon, human-beings, subtlest air (Sooksham Vaayu), prann, udaan, vidyut and then attains all divine qualities. Then after wandering for sometime, based on previous lives’ deeds, he gets the body accordingly and experiences sorrows and happiness through body.
Brihadarannyakopnishad chapter 4, 4th Brahmin, Shloka 2 states, that at the time of death, the soul remembers all the deeds (sins and pious deeds). Rishi states that a soul named sundi (grub) reaches a portion of small stem and then captures new part of branch through its forelimbs. When the sundi firmly takes hold of the new branch through her forelimbs then it releases its hold from the previous branch and pulls its body completely over the new branch caught with forelimbs.
The soul leaves his present body in exactly same manner. If sundi doesnot see the next branch then it would never leave the previous (first) branch. It means the soul while residing in the present human-body, first knows his next birth, then leaves his present body. The next birth is based on previous lives’ good and bad deeds (Rigved mantra 10/135/1,2 refer).
Therefore, we must follow the vedic path and accordingly we must discharge faithfully our moral duties, which are mentioned in Vedas. Secondly, we must study Vedas, do daily Yajyen and practice of Ashtang Yog under the guidance of learned Acharya to get progress in both spiritualism and worldly matters, simultaneously. Then only we would be able to get next birth in Devlok and our vedic worship will start from where we left the same in previous life. This is the only way to remove sorrows and overcome cycle of death and birth.
