JAMMU, Sept 25: Chief Justice of J&K High Court Justice Gita Mittal today said that overcoming deficiencies in the infrastructure of the judiciary will be her top priority.
Addressing a function organized by J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu, Chief Justice said, “I would always try to deliver justice to all as per the merit of the cases”, adding “I have sought report from the Registrar General of the High Court regarding deficiency in infrastructure in different district & mufassil courts”.
“I will left no stone unturned to solve the problems which are being faced by the Judicial Officers, Advocates and litigants”, the Chief Justice said, adding she will try to visit all remote districts of the State where the courts are facing infrastructural deficiencies and try to redress the same.
She informed the gathering that she had designed for vulnerable witnesses court room projects in Delhi trial court initially and later Delhi became the first city to have the witness protection set-up. “This step was taken to provide protection, privacy, confidentiality and comfort to vulnerable witnesses in an in-camera atmosphere in sexual offences cases as it is very difficult for the victim to stand with the accused and narrate the incidence in front of him”, she added.
The function was organized by the Bar Association to welcome Chief Justice Gita Mittal, Justice Sindhu Sharma AND Justice Rashjid Ali Dar.
Justice D S Thakur, Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Justice Sanjay Kumar Gupta, Former Judges namely Justice K K Gupta, eldest member of the Judicial family Justice G D Sharma and Justice B L Bhat besides Advocate General D C Raina were present on the occasion.
Senior Advocate B S Slathia, President, Sachin Gupta Vice President, Prem Sadotra General Secretary, Himanshu Sharma Joint Secy and Chetan Misri Treasure honoured Chief Justice by presenting bouquets on behalf of the J&K High Court Bar Association.
Speaking on the occasion, President of the Bar Association highlighted the contribution of Justice Gita Mittal in the Delhi High Court and at various other forums.
“The J&K High Court is lacking number of Judges as the sanctioned strength is 17 but at present there are only 9 sitting Judges as a result of which litigants are suffering”, he said, adding “actually there is requirement of 25 Judges including Chief Justice— 12 each in both Jammu as well as in Srinagar Wings”. He hoped that Chief Justice would take proper note of it.
