Despite repeated assurance by the traffic police about putting a check on menace of overloading in Mendhar tehsil, operators of Tata Sumo vehicles and buses here resort to overloading in clear violation rules. Locals say that the Sumo operators allow more than allowed number of passengers in their vehicles to earn money putting innocent livces at risk. All the roads in Mendhar area are of single lane and these sumos walas rush from one place to other with overloaded vehicles to earn more money. Traffic Policemen who are posted in these areas prefer to remain silent as they are hand in glove with sumo operators. This area witnessed many accidents due to overloading but the menace is still going on. There is a need to educate the people about side effects of overloading.
We appeal to ARTO Poonch to conduct regular checking in Mendhar area to avoid any future mishap as the way sumo operators are indulging in massive overloading, a big mishap is on the cards. The Transport Department therefore should organize regular program to aware the masses and sumo operators to avoid overloading.
