KATHUA, May 10: The private Oxygen plant at Kathua which developed a snag yesterday evening was restored late last night and plant has resumed supply to the hospitals in the district from early this morning.
According to sources, the plant which produces 3000 cubic meters of Oxygen gas daily was restored late last night after the technical team was brought from Ludhiana, Punjab to remove the fault and make it operational. The plant resumed supply by early this morning to all the hospitals including GMC Kathua, one private hospital in Kathua as well as Sub district Hospitals of Basohli and Billawar.
Meanwhile the Government is going to make its own Oxygen plant operational in the district within two or three days. This was stated by Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo while talking to Excelsior. He said three units of the Oxygen plant having capacity of producing 750 liters per minute each will produce 2250 liters of oxygen per minute. The step has been taken to augment the Oxygen supply in the district, he added.
To overcome the shortage of Oxygen in the Jammu region Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh said he is in constant touch with the District Development Commissioners. He said he took complete feedback from DCs regarding the position of Oxygen supply in the districts of Kathua -Doda Udhampur constituency and the Oxygen plant of Kathua will be made operational within next 48 hours.
The Minister said that this will go a long way in overcoming the shortage and after the Government Oxygen Plant becomes functional in Kathua the supply can be extended to other parts of the UT where the need be.
The Union Minister said besides Oxygen plant in Reasi is fully operational and there is not shortage of the same in the district while at Udhampur the Oxygen Plant has been strengthened by power generators to make it operational when there is power failure and another plant is also going to be installed in the district soon.
He said in Kishtwar and Doda districts also no shortage of Oxygen is being faced and the supply is being made from other parts of the UT. However in Doda the Government Oxygen Plant is complete and it can be made operational any time now while the in Kishtwar district it is near completion and will be made operational next month.
Dr Jitendra Singh said one Oxygen plant has been set up in Ramban also and it too will be made operational in next few days. He said there is no Oxygen problem in these districts and situation is being monitored by him on daily basis after taking complete feed back from the concerned DCs and other officers.
