KISHTWAR, May 23: Public Awareness Front (PAF) Kishtwar has expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of historic parade ground of kishtwar popularly known as ‘Chowgan’ due to the casual approach of the authorities which are supposed to take every step for its cleanliness and maintenance.
In a statement issued, Shakir Sidiqui, President, PAF Kishtwar said that the southern part of the ground is getting barren due to leakage and entry of dirty water of drains causing a grave threat to the very existence of this ground.
Shakir said that the ground wears a very bad look due to heaps of garbage, plastic bottles and polythene, adding that the law enforcing agencies are least bothered about the entry and plying of two-wheelers in the ground causing a serious damage to the flora of the Chowgan.
He said that Kishtwar Development Authority was supposed to look after the ground along with NHPC but unfortunately despite their agreement they are in deep slumber.
Sidiqui appealed to KDA, NHPC and Municipal Committee authorities to take joint steps to save this historic ground and impose blanket ban on the entry of vehicles in the ground and carriage of plastic bottles and polythene by the people in the ground.
He also urged for immediate ban on the entry of rehriwalas in the ground and also appealed to the general public of Kishtwar in maintaining the beauty of this asset of Kishtwar.
