NEW DELHI, May 16: A delegation of Pahari Speaking People of J&K led by Minister of State for Power, Forest, CA&PD and Transport, Shabir Ahmed Khan called on UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi here today.
The deputationists presented a memorandum to UPA Chairperson and pleaded for conferring Schedule Tribe Status to Pahari community of the State.
They apprised the UPA Chairperson that way back in 1989, the State Cabinet had recommended the case for conferring Pahari Status to Pahari People of the State along with six other communities and unfortunately only Pahari Community were not granted the Status of Scheduled Tribe.
The deputationists who met the UPA Chairperson included Advocate. H. A. Sidiqi, Mohammad Naseem Malik, Haji Khursheed Manhas, Hamayum Khan, Syed Yaseen Hussain Shah, Rakesh Mahajan, Abdul Gafoor Bhat, Mohammad Syed Qureshi, Lokesh. K. Sharma, Haji Gul Syed Khan and Mohammad Tufail Khan.
The UPA Chairperson gave patient hearing to the deputationists.
