JAMMU, May 24: A team of Pakistan Indus Commission led by its Commissioner Mirza Asif Beigh today inspected sites of two upcoming power projects on River Chenab in Kishtwar district.
Official sources said that the team comprising Mirza Asif Beigh, Joint Commissioner Sheraz Jameel and Advisor Imran Amir along with Indian delegation led by Indus Water Commissioner, India, K Vohra, Joint Commissioner R K Saxena and Advisor Rajveer Singh visited the sites of 850 Mega Watt Ratle and 48 Mega Watt Lower Kalnai Power Projects being constructed on River Chenab in Kishtwar district.
The visiting Pakistan Indus Commission team will visit site of Pakal Dul project tomorrow before leaving for the Union Capital, sources said, adding senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation were also accompanying the visiting team.
They said that documents about these projects were submitted to the Pakistan Indus Commission by Indus Commission of India as per the provisions of Indus Water Treaty, which was signed between two countries in 1960. The objective of the site inspection was to assess the ground situation and cross check the same with the submitted documents, sources said.
In response to a question, they said, “the Pakistan Indus Commission will make its observations on these upcoming projects on river Chenab at the later stage”.
