SRINAGAR, Nov 11: Security forces today killed a Pakistani militant of Jaish-e-Mohammad in Shopian area of South Kashmir while four militant associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) were arrested from Pulwama.
Additional Director General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said here that foreign JeM militant Kamran Bhai alias Hanees was killed in a gunfight at Kapran area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district today.
He termed the operation as a big success as a possible threat of Fidayeen and other militant attacks were thwarted by his elimination.
He said that acting on specific information generated by police regarding presence of the militant in Kapran area of Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, and 34-RR of Army. “First of all, teachers and students were evaluated from Madarsa,” he added.
An official said that during the search operation, as the security forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militant fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter in which the militant was killed.
As per police records, Kamran was a categorized militant and involved in several attacks on Police, security forces and civilians.
He was active in Kulgam-Shopian area and was trying to revive the JeM by recruiting and motivating the gullible youth to join militancy besides, planning to execute attacks.
“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one AK 74 and four magazines were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” police said.
In the meantime, security forces arrested four militant associates of the LeT and recovered explosive and incriminating materials from their possession.
They have been identified as Karamat-ul-lah Reshi son of Mehraj-ud-Din Reshi and Suhail Bashir Ganai son of Bashir Ahmad Ganai, both residents of Chewa Uller Tral, Adil Ghani Lone son of Abdul Ghani Lone, resident of Karamulla Tral and Irshad Ahmed Kumar son of Manzoor Ahmed Kumar, resident of Tral-e-Payeen. Incriminating materials including explosive substances have been recovered from their possession.
During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the arrested militant associates were in touch with LeT militant commander alias Babar alias Samama resident of PoJK and were in a bid to hatch conspiracy to plant IED in Tral area with the intend to cause damage to Police and security forces. Besides, the arrested associates were also involved in transportation of arms and ammunition and other logistic support to the LeT.
A case has been registered in Police Station Tral and further investigation has been set into motion.
