Pak must stop truce violations to continue talks with India: Farooq Abdullah

JAMMU, Sep 9: Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah today said dialogue with Pakistan is possible only if it stops violating ceasefire along the Line of Control and other bordering parts of the State.

“Pakistan must control ‘Jehadi’ forces in its own territory,” Dr Abdullah told reporters at the sidelines of a function at University of Jammu here this morning.

The Union Minister said Pakistan territory should not be used for terrorism adding, “Indo-Pak talks are must but only if there are no ceasefire violations and terrorist activities from across the border.”

The former chief minister, also supported Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s statement describing Rahul Gandhi as the right choice for next PM after 2014 polls.

“I am ready to work under the leadership of Mr Gandhi and I hope he (Rahul) will take over the responsibility after elections and guide the nation towards development,” said Mr Abdullah.

On Muzaffarnagar communal violence in which 30 people were killed, the Union Minister said vested interests are behind the tragic incidents adding, “elections are coming nearer and there are forces who are trying to create a communal wedge for their own benefits.”

On US-Syria conflict, Dr Abdullah appealed for harmony and said that war is not the solution to any issue.

“Dialogue should be used to resolve every crisis and not violence,” he added. (AGENCIES)
