Pak spy arrested in Amritsar

 

AMRITSAR: The Punjab Police has arrested a man who was acting as a spy for Pakistani agencies and recovered a Pakistan SIM card, photographs of restricted areas, army manuals and a hand-made sketch of military installations from him.

Tarwinder Singh, resident of village Kakkar Tarin in district Amritsar, was arrested on basis of specific information by a team of State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) from the Attari road, near the Wagah border.

An FIR was registered against him under various sections of the Official Secrets Act, 120-B at SSOC police station in Amritsar, a SSOC release issued here today said.

The preliminary interrogation of Tarwinder Singh revealed that he was an unemployed youth who had gone to Dubai in 2010 in search of employment but returned after an year. He went to Pakistan in April 2013 as part of a jatha and spent 10 days there. During his stay in Pakistan, he was “recruited” by a Pakistani official using the code name of Rao Sahib by allurement of money. A Pakistan SIM card was handed over to him.

Tarwinder Singh said his handler assigned him tasks of finding out about movement of army units in Amritsar and DBN Sectors, construction of new bunkers on Indian side of the border, photographs of army vehicles alongwith their formation signs, army exercises and trainings and any new activity/construction on the Attari road.

The alleged Pak spy would be produced in court where his police remand would be sought for further questioning. (AGENCIES)
