JAMMU, July 9: Indian Army has destroyed three bunkers and two posts of Pakistan army and eliminated their at least two jawans in massive offensive launched against them in Chakan-Da-Bagh sub sector of Poonch district along Line of Control (LoC) last night. Sources said the counter attack was necessitated to silence the Pakistani guns, which were pounding civilian areas in Khari, Karmara, Digwar and Chakan-Da-Bagh areas of Poonch sector.
At least two posts and three bunkers of Pakistan army were decimated in retaliatory firing and shelling brought down by the Indian troops across Chakan-Da-Bagh sub sector last night. However, the massive Indian Army action, the Pakistani guns, which were targeting civilian areas, were silenced.
“Pakistan has suffered extensive damage in retaliation by the Indian troops,” sources said, adding that at least two Pakistan army personnel were killed and half a dozen others were injured when their posts and bunkers were destroyed. Number of the casualties on Pakistan side could be even higher, they pointed out saying “it was not possible to ascertain exact number of casualties and damage suffered by the Pakistani troops in the Indian offensive”.
During past couple of months, Indian Army had undertaken series of pre-emptive measures against Pakistani troops as part of its anti-infiltration measures and prevent target of civilian areas from across the LoC. The troops have destroyed a number of Pakistani posts and bunkers along LoC in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch as they had been targeting Indian villages, located close to the LoC with a view to cause civilian casualties.
“The new Army strategy against Pakistan has been working very well,” sources said.
Meanwhile, Pakistan army late this evening again started mortar shelling and firing at Digwar, Gulpur, Chakan-Da-Bagh, Karmara and Kasalian forward villages of Poonch sector. Indian troops retaliated the shelling and firing effectively at all the places, sources said, adding heavy exchanges continued for couple of hours after which intensity of shelling reduced. The exchange of small arms firing also continued.
However, there were no reports of any casualties or damage in Pakistan shelling and firing today though a number of 82mm mortar shells were reported to have landed in the civilian areas and exploded with bangs, causing panic among the people.

Several mortar shells fell close to Chakan-Da-Bagh Trade Centre but no major loss was reported. Cross-LoC bus between Poonch and Rawalkote operates every Monday from Chakan-Da-Bagh connecting people of two parts of divided State.
Yesterday, an Army jawan, who had come to his house on leave and his wife were killed and three young girls including two daughters of the deceased couple were injured in mortar shelling by Pakistani troops. Pakistan had also claimed that its two civilians were killed and three others were injured in retaliatory firing by the Indian troops.
According to reports, the people in a number of forward villages in Poonch, Balakote, Mendhar and Nowshera sectors of Poonch and Rajouri districts were in panic mode following frequent mortar shelling and firing by Pakistan army targeting civilian areas.
Sources pointed out that Pakistan army was intentionally targeting the civilian population living close to the LoC to inflict casualties of innocent persons, which has resulted into panic among the border dwellers at various places.
A large number of people had to migrate from Nowshera sector in Rajouri district earlier due to shelling in their villages by Pakistan army. However, for the past few days, Nowshera sector has been generally peaceful as Indian troops had inflicted heavy casualties on Pakistan army.
