JAMMU, Aug 18: Former Union Health Minister and the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad has alleged that desperate Pakistan is trying to divert the attention of its people from the international problem and is resorting to ceasefire violations and un-Islamic acts of targeting innocent civilians.
While addressing public meetings in Bhaderwah constituency today, Mr Azad expressed serious concern over the spurt in the ceasefire violations along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in the State. He said that frustrated Pakistan is resorting to ceasefire violations and targeting innocent people living in this side of the border, just to divert the attention of its people from the basic issues. Pakistan is facing internal crisis and has miserably failed to tackle it, Mr Azad maintained.
Firing salvo on the Centre and the PDP-BJP coalition in the State for rise in terror attacks in the State and ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the border areas, the top AICC leader said that Governments have failed to control these incidents. He said the incidents of terrorism and ceasefire violations along the International border and LoC by Pakistan have increased manifold in the recent months.
“A number of militancy related incidents have taken place in the past several months with reports of fresh recruitment of youth in the militant ranks which is a matter of great concern,” Azad said, adding that, the Government has failed to take necessary measures and provide adequate relief to the victims of firing in Poonch sector.
Mr Azad accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of remaining silent on the killings of innocent civilians by Pakistan on Independence Day and alleged that Mr Modi failed to give a strong message to the neighbouring country.
“Pakistan has indulged in unprovoked firing, targeting civilian population and supporting terrorism, while BJP Government was desperate to hold NSA level talks with that nation,” Mr Azad remarked.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha said that BJP Government was “totally confused” on its policy towards Pakistan, as during the UPA regime the party leadership used to oppose talks with that country on the plea that the talks and terror can not go together.
Strongly condemning Pakistan for the killing of innocent civilians on the border, Azad said Pakistan was indulging in un-Islamic acts and it shows the signs of frustration and cowardice. He asserted that Pakistan would never succeed in its nefarious designs in the State and it should concentrate in resolving its own crises.
Addressing people PCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir accused the PDP-BJP Government of failure to contain the activities of militants and of failing on all fronts and creating an atmosphere of uncertainty in the State.
Mir said the recent spurt in militant incidents in the State and infiltration from Pakistan has created an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty among the people.
He said atmosphere of peace and tranquility has been vitiated which was achieved after great struggle and sacrifices of the people and a security forces.
Blaming the Mufti Mohd Sayeed Government and the Centre for its wrong policies leading to worsening of the overall situation, he said, it was a cause of great concerns for all peace loving people of the State who wanted peace to prevail for overall economic growth and progress.
The present coalition of “opportunist forces” has widened the gap between the regions instead of bridging the same because of their inherent contradictions, Mir said.
He alleged that the Government was working with vested political interests and failed to initiate any developmental activities and the much needed relief and rehabilitation measures for the flood- and rain-affected people.
