Srinagar, Aug 16: Pakistani troops fired at Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kargil and Drass sectors of Ladakh for the first time in the 14 years since the Kargil war of 1999.
Sources said that Pakistani troops opened fire in Drass and Kargil sector by using small arms on the night intervening August 11 and 12. However, it was not immediately known whether Indian troops responded or not.
The firing from small arms took place in Kill Nallah, Marpola, LC post in Drass and Bajrang post in Kaksar and Lutusid in Kargil. However, there was no loss of life or damage.
Army neither confirmed the ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Kargil and Drass nor denied it.
Since early this month, there have been continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan in Poonch and Mendhar sectors along the LoC and this is for the first time that they have violated the ceasefire in Kargil and Drass.
The Kargil conflict had happened after militants and Pakistani soldiers crossed over and took positions on the Indian side of the LoC over the winter months of 1998-99. The two countries were involved in armed conflict between May and July 1999.
