SRINAGAR : Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has said Pakistan will now blame India for every terrorist strike in that country while reacting to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar’s statement that India will use terrorists to counter terrorists from other countries.
The statement of Mr Abdullah came after Pakistan has expressed concern over the statement made by Defence Mr Parrikar that India will use terrorism to counter terrorism from other countries.
The working president of the main Opposition National Conference (NC) in the state, where BJP is ruling the coalition headed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Abdullah said on micro-blogging site twitter, ”So now Pakistan will blame India for every terrorist strike on its soil & hold up Def Min Parikar’s statement as the confession. Well played.
The statement of Mr Parrikar at ‘Manthan’ conclave organised by a news channel that ”we have to neutralise terrorists through terrorists only evoked sharp reaction from political parties in the state besides Pakistan.
Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz reacting to Defence Minister’s statement said, ”It only confirms Pakistan’s apprehensions about India’s involvement in terrorism in Pakistan.
It must be the first time that a Minister of an elected government openly advocates use of terrorism in another country on the pretext of preventing terrorism from that country or its non-state actors.”
He said ”Pakistan sincerely pursues a policy of good neighbourly relations with India as it (terrorism) is our common enemy and it is vital for both the countries to work together to defeat this menace”.
In an earlier tweet, Mr Abdullah has said that Looks like Mufti Syeed is reviving & empowering the Ikhwanis. That’s the only way to carry out “terrorists killing terrorists” policy of MOD.
However, one of his followers said to Mr Abdullah on twitter that it was his father Dr Farooq Abdullah during 1996 to 2002 who used Ikhwanis to kill Kashmiris. “bt it ws ur father who first used them to kill kashmiris, whre were u at tht time ws it allowed tht time bcz u were in power, the tweet said.
Joining the debate over the issue, the Communist Party of India (M) took exception to the remarks made by Mr Parrikar. The CPI(M) said such statements were totally indefensible and reflect the hegemonic mindset of a section in power in New Delhi, who were hell-bent on vitiating the atmosphere in Jammu and Kashmir.
Senior CPI (M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said Kashmir was yet to come to terms after an era of unease, tension and a general sense of insecurity.
In such a situation, the Defence Minister needs to explain the contours of his remarks and elaborate the context in which he has made this loaded statement, Mr Tarigami demanded.
The CPI (M) leader observed that Mr Parrikar’s statement is a shocking call to act outside the law and in fact suggests patronising â state sponsored terrorism.
It does damage the country’s interests as a whole. The Prime Minister should make amends through a public correction of this statement, he demanded. (AGENCIES)
