Pakistan: 15 killed in fresh Kurram clashes

ISLMABAD, Oct 13 : In Pakistan’s Kurram region, two factions engaged in armed fighting on Saturday that resulted in the deaths of fifteen people-including two women and a child-and the injuries to seven more, according to officials.

Police sources claim that early in the morning, fighting broke out when Maq?bal tribesmen opened fire, injuring two Kanj Alizai tribesmen.

They said that attacks on passengers and other cars occurred shortly after the event, and the fighting quickly extended to several areas of the district, Dawn reported.

According to the sources, the deceased and injured were brought to the district hospital in Parachinar.

“One injured person is admitted, and the others were moved to other hospitals,” stated Dr. Syed Meer Hasan, the medical supervisor of Parachinar DHQ.

Javedullah Mahsud, the deputy commissioner for Kurram, stated that efforts were being made to secure highways for use in transit and to bring about permanent peace.

A local jirga, or tribal council, member named Pir Haidar Shah stated that the fire event was a setback to peace efforts in the region and that Jirga elders were conversing with the tribesmen at the time.

To help the two tribes communicate, the district administration convened a local jirga in September. In addition, the KP government established a land commission to address land issues, which are the primary reason behind the conflicts. A property conflict in the area resulted in 46 fatalities last month. (UNI)
