ISLAMABAD : Pakistan continues to face acute petrol shortage for the past nine days, bringing country to a standstill.
The shortage began last week, first hitting Pakistan’s central Punjab province and the capital Islamabad and spreading to north western Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and parts of the country’s biggest city, Karachi.
Earlier, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had called for an emergency meeting over the issue and suspended two officials in the matter.
A two-member committee was formed during the meeting to probe into the cause behind prevailing crisis. The team yesterday submitted its primary report to Mr Sharif. The committee presented its initial findings to Mr Sharif, informing him that the petrol shortage was a serious failure on the part of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) as a regulator.
Angered media and the people of Pakistan have lambasted the government for its failure to curb the crisis. Mr Sharif has also decided to cancel his trip to Switzerland, where he was scheduled to attend the World Economic Forum(WEF). (AGENCIES)
