Pakistan court suspends Imran Khan’s move to extend Army chief Qamar Bajwa’s tenure

Pakistan Supreme Court on Tuesday suspended the extension of General Qamar Bajwa as the Pakistan army chief. His tenure was earlier extended by Prime Minister Imran Khan for another three years.

The extension of General Bajwa’s tenure has been suspended till further hearing on Wednesday, reported The Dawn.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had on November 19 approved the extension of the tenure of Bajwa for another three years.

The chief justice of Pakistan, while suspending the extension on Tuesday said that only the President of Pakistan can approve such extensions in tenure and not the Prime Minister.

However, the Imran Khan government argued that General Qamar Bajwa’s tenure was extended by Imran Khan only after the President approved of the move.
