We cannot underestimate or afford to brush aside in any manner whatsoever, the security threat posed by the very active mobile networking of Pakistan along our sensitive border areas, both International Border and Line of Control, like Poonch, Rajouri, Samba and Kathua, all in Jammu region. Whether Government of India had some definite policy to counter this challenge from the Pakistani side, we have our fingers crossed.
It is worth noting that Pakistan mobile signals in our territory cannot be treated lightly as it poses a serious threat to our security forces since the infiltrators stand advantaged due to such strong cellular signals from that country. Numerous villages located in the range of 0 to 5 kilometres of LoC and IB receive strong signals of Pakistan cellular companies like PKU Phone and PK Phone. What is more baffling is the fact of there being no presence of Indian cellular companies including BSNL in about over a dozen forward villages of Mendhar and Balakote tehsils of Poonch.
Taking advantage of Pakistani network and absence of the one from Indian side to counter it, terrorists can easily contact their masters sitting across the border. The administration at the state level in close liaison with the Central Government authorities must address this serious issue on top priority as no complacency could be afforded in matters of national security.
