Pakistan sees 2016 economic growth at 5 pct, to miss target

ISLAMABAD, Apr 28: Pakistan’s economy will expand by 5 percent this year, the prime minister’s office said late on Wednesday, missing the government growth target of 5.5 percent due to poor cotton crop production. The fiscal deficit will be trimmed to below 4 percent in the 2016/2017 financial year, the prime minister’s office said, citing figures provided by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar during a budget strategy meeting. Dar said Pakistan’s tax collection revenue increased by 19 percent over the last nine months to 2,103 billion rupees ($20.1 billion). (AGENCIES)
