JAMMU, July 11: Jammu Kashmir Panch Welfare Association has supported the Government move of amending Panchayati Raj Act in the State for nomination of Sarpanchs by the elected members.
To convey its support, a meeting of the Association was held, here today under the chairmanship of its president R C Sharma. The meet opined that the indirect election of the Sarpanch will pave way to proportionate development of the particular Panchayati halqa without any partiality.
The Association condemned the political parties, which have been raising objection over the Amendment Bill and alleged that such political parties were raising hue and cry only for their vested interests.
The Association also appealed the Divisional Commissioner Jammu for conducting loss assessment survey of the damage caused to structures and properties of the masses during recent wind storm and torrential rain so that compensation may be given to the affected people as early as possible.
The meeting was attended by Fareed Ahmed, Mohan Lal, Saniyal, Jamal Ali, Sushma Devi, Geeta Devi, Vaishno Devi, Vandana Devi, Mumtaz Ali, Sadiq, Subash Sumbria, Shiv Dayal and Som Nath.
