UDHAMPUR, Sept 20: Alleging murder of a young woman, who had died last week under mysterious circumstances, Panchari, Lander, Meer and Kainthgali areas observed a complete shutdown today.
The agitating people also held a strong protest at Panchari and Kainthgali demanding expeditious investigation into the mysterious death case of Nisha Devi (23) wife of Surinder Kumar of Kuddal village, Purani Bhuti, Lander in tehsil Panchari.
The protesting family members and villagers claimed that the deceased had lodged a complaint of torture and harassment against her husband at Police Station Panchari, just a day before her mysterious death.
The villagers were demanding registration of murder case against husband of the deceased and investigation into the case by other than Panchari Police. They also blocked the road and disrupted vehicular movement.
The protesting people could be pacified only after Dy SP Headquarters S S Bloeria, on the direction of SSP Udhampur, personally reached the spot and assured necessary action on their demand after post-mortem report is received. He also announced that an Investigation Officer from Udhampur would be deputed for the case, in which am inquest proceeding under section 174 CrPC has been initiated to ascertain the actual cause of death.
Earlier in the morning Tehsildar Panchari and SHO Panchari also tried to pacify the mob but to no avail.
