MENDHAR Aug 22: The Panchayat Ghar built by the government about 20 years ago in Gholad Dabriban village of Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district is not functioning as its entire building including doors and windows are all lying in dilapidated.
The local people of the village told Excelsior that the people of the area used to discuss development related works with the Panchayat body and government officials here, but due to the damaged building, this is not happening anymore.
They pointed out that huge funds are being provided by the government for development of Panchayats, but the general public of this belt is upset due to the deteriorating condition of the Panchayat Ghar. They said that where should the Gram Sabha be held by the PRI members as there is dirt, cowdung etc scattered all around and also inside the main hall with broken doors. The building is also at the verge of collapse.
Local Sarpanch Shafiq Khan accused the Rural Development Department of total neglect of this building. He said during last 20 years many BDOs came here, and Panchayat members gave them in writing about the condition of this building and initiating immediate repair but no one took care. The condition of Panchayat Ghar is deteriorating day by day. The RDD authorities must provide funds for its repair without any delay, Khan pleaded.
Dr Shahzad Ahmed Malik, Chairman, BADC said that the government has brought many schemes on a large scale for the development of Panchayats, but the ground reality is telling something else. He said Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory must take this matter seriously. There are many such buildings of Panchayat Ghar which are in bad condition. The concerned officials should be instructed to get them repaired.
