SRINAGAR, Sept 18: A Panchayat Ghar suffered minor damage after it was set ablaze in South Kashmir’s Shopian district tonight while militants fired a grenade on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Pulwama district.
A Panchayat Ghar was set ablaze at Ram Nagri village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district tonight and the locals immediately came out and put out the fire. However, the building suffered minor damage. Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
This is the fifth Panchayat Ghar that was set ablaze during last 48 hours in South Kashmir. The incidents coincide with the announcement of Panchayat elections to be held in nine phases from next month.
Two Panchayat Ghars were set ablaze in Seer Jaghir and Nagbal villages of Tral area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, one at Drubgam in the same district and another at village Nazneen Pora in district Shopian of South Kashmir. However, they suffered minor damages in the torching incidents.
Police have registered cases in these torching incidents and a senior police officer said that they have identified the persons responsible for these incidents.
And militants tonight hurled a grenade from a Under Barrel Grenade Launcher on 183 Battalion of CRPF camp near Railway Station Kakapora in Pulwama district. They also fired at the CRPF camp but there was no damage.
The CRPF personnel fired back but the militants managed to escape from the spot. The security forces including Army reached the spot and conducted searches in the nearby areas against the militants responsible for the attack.
