ANANTNAG, Nov 24: Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir today said that focused attention is being paid towards upgrading various facilities in order to improve the quality of life of the people especially living in remote and hilly areas of the State, adding that roads, drinking water, irrigation and civic amenities have gained momentum over the years in such areas.
Addressing series of public meetings today at Kapran, Hingipora, Gowas, Yakadbaroo, Halsidhar and Sidhar in Dooru Constituency, the Minister said that a massive developmental effort has been launched by the Government especially in remote and hilly areas in all the three regions of the State. He said the Government is committed to upgrade various facilities and in this initiative cooperation of the people is imperative.
Urging the people to actively join the effort, the Minister said that the Panchayati Raj System has opened up vast opportunities for the rural population, making them important constituents in the decision making proccess. He said Panchayats have to play an important role in rural development and the mechanism essentially aims at prioritizing the schemes at the grass roots level.
The Minister reiterated that Government is committed to ensure overall and sustained development of the hilly and backward areas and called upon the people to come forward to take part in local governance and development initiatives undertaken by the Government
Tourism Minister also took review of various development works under execution in the area and sought status of these from the concerned officers.
The Minister called upon the concerned officers to involve and inform the PRI functionaries about different schemes of the departments as they are very much close to the people and are in a better position to serve their respective areas by properly identifying and monitoring the development works and welfare schemes.
Meanwhile, the Minister also convened public grievance camps at several villages during the tour, where in, the locals besides Panchs and Sarpanchs put forth their developmental needs and day to day problems especially related to upgradation of power, drinking water, healthcare and road connectivity facilities.
The Minister gave patient hearing to the people and said that their genuine demands would be given due consideration.
