Panchayats to play pivotal role in implementation of Govt. scheme: Sham

JAMMU, May 4:  To assess the empowerment of the Panchayati Raj representation at the ground level, Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture  Sham Lal Sharma held  meeting with Panchayati Raj functionaries at Kana Chak here today.
Terming panchayat institutions as pivotal agency to create awareness and implementation of different state and centrally sponsored Government schemes designed to ameliorate the socio-economic status of the people especially those living below poverty line, the Minister hoped that these institutions would leave no stone unturned in providing adequate awareness to common masses regarding the flagship programmes of the Government in their respective areas.
On the demands of the Sarpanchs for implementation of 73rd Amendment for empowerment of Panchayati Raj System, the Minister said that certain good provisions of the 73rd Amendment are already under execution and have been incorporated in the Panchayati Raj Act promulgated by the State. He said the report with regard 73rd Amendment of the Cabinet Sub Committee constituted by Government and other suggestions to make the basic democratic institutions very powerful are under active consideration.
Mr. Sham said that the devolution of powers to Panchs and Sarpanchs was a sincere and conscious decision of the present Government as it really wanted that these grass root democratic institutions to grow and address the peoples grievances to their satisfaction.
The Minister said that the Panchs and Sarpanchs also can play a major role in weeding out the corruption in the public life.
The Panchayati functionaries demanded the Minister for organizing regular meetings so that the various issues of Sarpanchs and Panchs would be redressed onspot.
Meanwhile, the Minister impressed upon the Panchs and Sarpanchs to discharge their responsibilities honestly and effectively in accordance with the law and try to come to the expectations of the people who have trusted them by electing them for panchyats.
