JAMMU, May 10: The Government should institute a Commission of inquiry to probe the circumstances that led to the mass exodus of Pandits from Kashmir valley in 1989-90 and those forces be punished under law of the land who perpetuated the conditions akin to genocide.
This was demanded during an interactive Session with community members organized by Jammu Kashmir Nationalist Movement (JKNM) headed by Prof K N Pandita.
The entire community of Pandits is unanimous on this demand and there should be no delay in constitution the Commission of Inquiry said Dr Ramesh a social activist while addressing the gathering.
In his address BJP MLC Surinder Ambardar said that Kashmiri Pandits will return to Valley on their own agenda. Pandits will determine the conditions for return and BJP as a political party will follow it.
He said it is the time when the displaced people should fix their priorities. “I have been given mandate by the Party to appeal community to fix modus operandi for return’’. But one thing is to be kept in mind that the return will only be possible under constitutional frame work of India’’, he added.
He said the displaced Pandits want to return and every one craves for same as Kashmir is in our nerves but there are certain apprehensions which need to be redressed.
Maintaining that BJP is with Pandits cause, Ambardar said that Party always stood by the community right form the day one of mass exodus and it will not take any decision that will be against the interests of the community.
He said the people in Valley who were earlier opposed to return are now suggesting that there should be a joint Board of Muslims and Pandits to find out modalities for return. This all is the result of community struggle, he added.
He said BJP will not allow State Government to send any proposal to Centre on return till the community objective is fulfilled.
Addressing the gathering Prof Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor Central University Jammu suggested setting up of the educational institutions of excellence by the community. He said as the Pandits are the academicians and the community should come forward in establishing the institutes of excellence in educational field to create a space for the youth who are forced to make a choice for themselves outside.
Prof Aima said KPs have survived many migrations and the community is here because of its resilience.
On the occasion Sanatan Dharam Sabha Handwara and Baderkali Sanstha Handwara representative Chand Ji announced Rs one lakh each as donation for setting up of an education institution while Prof Aima also announced Rs one lakh as donation for this cause.
In his presidential address K N Pandita reiterated the twin city demand for settlement of Pandits in Valley. He said the name can be replaced by Prime Minister’s smart city concept. He highlighted the role of his organization and reiterated the community’s right over Kashmir.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Bansi Lal Pandita a senior representative of JKNM. The programme was coordinated by Dr M K Bharat and Maj Gen B N Dhar and Advocate K N Bhat were also on dais. S K Kaul spoke on behalf of the JKNM and highlighted its role.
