JAMMU, Sept 3: Protest rocked Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where a middle aged man died, due to the negligence of the doctors, here today.
The family members and the relatives of one Balwant Raj Sharma, son of Ram Krishan, resident of Talab Tillo, staged protest demonstration in front of the mortuary of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), against the hospital administration.
They said that after road accident at Paloura, Balwant and his friend were rushed to GMC Hospital, but due to the negligence of the doctors, Balwant died.
They said that the Government makes tall claims, that health institutions in the State are functioning smoothly and all facilities are being provided to the people, but at the ground level, Government and the GMC Hospital administration have failed to take care of the patients.
They said that, the attendants along with duo approached doctors several times, but their negligence led to the death of Balwant.
“No senior doctor is available in GMC Hospital and only the PG students are seen examining the patients”, the irate relatives of Balwant alleged.
After the intervention of the hospital administration and police, the mob dispersed.
Principal, GMC Hospital, Dr Anees Choudhary, when contacted told Excelsior that, they have constituted a three member Doctors committee, which will probe into the allegations made by the relatives of the Balwant Sharma regarding negligence by doctors.
The doctors in the committee are Dr Tariq Azad, Prof, Surgery, Dr Anil Gupta, HoD, Orthopedics and Dr Manoj Chalotra, Medical Superintendent, GMC Hospital, Dr Choudhary, said, adding, that they will submit their report in next three days.
He added that a board was also constituted to conduct the postmortem including Dr Rakesh Saraf, HoD Surgery, Dr KK Koul, HoD Pathology and Dr Bhupesh Khajuria, HoD Forensic Medicines.
When contacted, Police said that Balwant and his friend Rajesh Sharma, son of Sarda Ram of Talab Tillo, were injured in a road accident, when the motorcycle they were riding, was hit by an unknown vehicle, near Paloura area, under the jurisdiction of Domana police station.
He said that the duo were rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where Balwant succumbed to his injuries and the other was undergoing treatment.
The body was handed over to legal heirs after completion of the legal formalities, while, a case has been registered and investigation started.
In another incident, microscopes were stolen from the Psychology Department of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), which has become a question mark on the security of the equipments in the hospital.
Sources said that nearly 22 microscopes have been stolen from the Psychology Department of the Hospital, during the intervening night of September 2 and 3.
Dr Anees Choudhary, Principal, GMC Hospital, told that a penal of doctors including Dr Sunanda Raina, HoD, Anatomy Department, Dr Neeru Gupta, HoD Psychology and Dr Rakesh Bhel, Asstt Prof, Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM) Departments, have been constituted to look into the matter and submit the report, within three days.
“We have also filed a case with Police Post Government Medical Colleges and Hospital (GMCH)”, Dr Choudhary added.
