JAMMU, Nov 6: Panic gripped Trikuta Nagar area, when two car borne youths opened firing at the glass structure of Shiv temple. However, acting swiftly, the police nabbed the youths including a psychiatric patient near Akhnoor along with weapon used in the crime.
SSP Jammu Uttam Chand while talking to reporters at Gandhi Nagar police station said that two youths in an Alto car bearing registration number JK12-6209 fired at the glass structure of Shiv temple at Trikuta Nagar this morning and later escaped from the spot. SP South Rahul Malik, SDPO Gandhi Nagar Harjeet Singh, SDPO East Mohammad Rafiq and SHO Gandhi Nagar Paramjeet Singh were also present in the press conference.
On getting information, police team rushed to the spot and all the nakas were sounded, he said, adding that car was intercepted at Akhnoor and two persons namely Sayed Shah Bukhari and Yasir Hussain Shah, both residents of Sanai, tehsil Surankote, district Poonch were arrested. A twelve bore gun and six live cartridges were also recovered from their possession by the team led by SDPO Akhnoor Naresh Singh, SSP added.
A case under FIR number 200, under Section 307, 295, 295-A and 427 RPC and 3/25 Arms Act has been registered at Trikuta Nagar police station and investigation started.
He further stated that Sayed Shah Bukhari is a psychiatric patient and was undergoing treatment.
When asked for any connection of this firing incident to create disturbance during the forthcoming elections, the SSP said that this cannot be ruled out yet and police is working on different angles.
To a question, Uttam Chand said that the people having weapons have been directed to surrender their weapons on the onset of the elections in the State and this process is going on. The weapon used by one of the miscreants was issued on the license of his father, he added.
