Panthak Ekta Morcha seeks 8 Assembly seats for DPs of 47

JAMMU, Sept 6: Panthak Ekta Morcha (J&K), today demanded eight Assembly seats for the Displaced Persons (DPs) of 1947 from PoJK, with proper share to the Sikhs community in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a joint press conference by the members of various Sikh organizations, under the banner of Panthak Ekta Morcha, led by its convenor, Harjinder Singh, the members said that out of the 24 seats of PoJK, at least 8 seats be provided to the DPs of 1947 and minority Sikh community be provided its due share.
Singh further demanded implementation of JPC report with regard to comprehensive package and said that full package be provided to the DPs including jobs to their wards. He also demanded relief and jobs in favour of Sikh DPs from Kashmir on the pattern of KPs. He said the Sikhs who did not migrate and stayed in Kashmir despite very adverse conditions, should also be provided justice.
Morcha leaders also demanded proper implementation of Anand Marriage Act in J&K and said the present claim of the LG Govt of implementing it was just an eye wash. They have befooled the Sikhs. They further said that Ansari Commission Report with regard to anti-Sikh riots of 1989 be made public tabled in the Assembly after formation of new Government.
They opposed the screening of film ” Emergency” of Kangna Renaut ( BJP MP) from HP, in Jammu and Kashmir and demanded official status for Punjabi language in the JKUT.
The members of Panthak Ekta Morcha resolved to support PDP candidate from Gandhinagar-Bahu Assembly constituency, Varinder Singh Sonu in the upcoming elections. They appealed the Sikh community to support PDP and a community candidate from Bahu Constituency in Jammu.
