JAMMU, Dec 26: Remi-nding the ruling BJP of its ‘Vision Document’ released during 2014 elections as also the speeches of Narendra Modi and other senior leaders, the Panthers Mahila wing led by Manju Singh, senior JKNPP leader today held a massive demonstration here at Exhibition Ground seeking early delimitation of Assembly constituencies in the State and reservation of 33% seats for women in State Assembly.
The agitated protesters while raising slogans against BJP, Prime Minister and the J&K Government took out a procession from Dogra Chowk which was restrained by the police at Tawi Bridge from proceeding further. The protesters blocked the bridge which led to a heavy traffic jam for more than an hour.
Addressing the gathering, Manju Singh said that assurances for delimitation and for ending regional bias were not only doled out by the Central BJP leadership but the BJP’s vision document released during elections also categorically promised early delimitation of Assembly constituencies in J&K so as to ensure justice to Jammu region with 33 % seats reserved for women, five seats for displaced persons of PoJK out of 24 seats reserved for them in the State constitution and three seats for Kashmiri migrants.
Lambasting the lackadaisical approach of the Government towards the main demand of Jammu region, Manju said that delimitation of constituencies should be completed in a time bound manner so that next elections are held as per the census 2011.
Kesar Parveen, general secretary, Mahila Panthers, said that BJP must redeem its pre poll promises on the issue of women reservation and initiate immediate steps in this regard.
Neelam Abrol regretted that while delimitation process had been completed all over the country by Justice Kuldeep Singh Commission, it was J&K State alone which had been singled out under the pretext of Art 370.
Mahila Panthers leaders warned of a full scale agitation in case the coalition Government didn’t initiate the process for delimitation at the earliest.
